SIAE agrarian extension vulgarization EEA/SV SIAE extensión agraria vulgarización EEA/SV Investigación realizada con el objetivo de demostrar que en la Estación Experimental Agronómica de Santiago de las Vegas (EEA/SV) durante el período 1917/1924, radicó un servicio que devino forma de ejercicio de extensión agraria: el Servicio de Ingenieros Agrónomos del Estado (SIAE). Se asumió el paradigma interpretativo de investigación científica (diseño no experimental tipo transversal), para la revisión de legajos del archivo institucional, revistas de agricultura e informes anuales de trabajo de la biblioteca “Juan Tomás Roig”, del Instituto de Investigaciones Fundamentales en Agricultura Tropical, “Alejandro de Humboldt” (INIFAT), continuador del legado de la otrora EEA/SV. Se verificó que a través del Departamento de Vulgarización Agrícola, se implementó un servicio al alcance de los agricultores cubanos, mediante un sistema de capacitación y asistencia técnica, que incluyó conferencias públicas sobre temas agronómicos, así como visitas a agricultores en sus sitios de labor y la atención a sus consultas de manera presencial o por correspondencia; también se realizó la divulgación y distribución de publicaciones con contenido técnico, la interpretación de resultados del análisis químico de muestras de suelo y de plantas, y la distribución de semilla de especies de interés agrícola. Destaca que esta práctica de la extensión agraria, no reflejó rasgos propios de la misma en la época: verticalismo, desconocimiento del saber campesino y unidireccionalidad. Se constata la similitud entre este servicio y el correspondiente accionar rector del INIFAT como institución líder en su momento, de la Agricultura Urbana, Suburbana y Familiar en Cuba. Research carried out with the objective of demonstrating that in the Agronomic Experimental Station of Santiago de las Vegas (EEA/SV) during the period 1917/1924, a service was established that became a form of agricultural extension exercise: the State Agronomist Service (SIAE). The interpretive paradigm of scientific research (non-experimental cross-sectional design) was assumed, for the review of files from the institutional archive, agricultural magazines and annual work reports of the “Juan Tomás Roig” library, of the Institute of Fundamental Research in Tropical Agriculture, “Alejandro de Humboldt” (INIFAT), continuator of the legacy of the former EEA/SV. It was verified that through the Department of Agricultural Vulgarization, a service was implemented within the reach of Cuban farmers, through a training and technical assistance system, which included public conferences on agronomic issues, as well as visits to farmers at their work sites and attending to your inquiries in person or by correspondence; the dissemination and distribution of publications with technical content, the interpretation of the results of the chemical analysis of soil and plant samples, and the distribution of seeds of species of agricultural interest were also carried out. It stands out that this practice of agrarian extension did not reflect its own characteristics at the time: verticalism, ignorance of peasant knowledge and unidirectionality. The similarity between this service and the corresponding governing action of INIFAT as the leading institution in its time, of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture in Cuba is verified.
