Plataforma para la seguridad y soberanía alimentaria: la biodiversidad agrícola tradicional en Cuba Plataform for the food security and sovereignty: agricultural biodiversity in Cuba Castiñeiras Alfonso, Leonor Shagarodsky Scull, Tomás Sánchez Rodríguez, Yanisbell García García, Maritza Fuentes Fiallo, Victor Barrios Govín, Odalys Cristóbal Suárez, Raúl Fernández Granda, Lianne Hernández Figueroa, Fidel Giraudy Bueno, Celerina home gardens farms agricultural biodiversity ecosystem approaches huertos caseros fincas biodiversidad agrícola enfoque ecosistémico Las investigaciones sobre conservación in situ de recursos fitogenéticos desarrolladas en Cuba (1997-2008) han demostrado el valor de los huertos caseros y las fincas de las áreas rurales en el mantenimiento de la biodiversidad agrícola tradicional a través de su uso, en especial en áreas vinculadas a las reservas de la biosfera de Cuba. Su manejo debe considerarse de una forma integral, teniendo en cuenta todos los aspectos (naturales, socio-económicos y culturales) que inciden en su conservación. El carácter sostenible de los huertos familiares en las áreas de transición y amortiguamiento hace de ellos unidades económicamente estables, que logran un equilibrio con su entorno, a través del uso de una alta diversidad de especies para el sustento de la familia, donde los cultivos tradicionales son la base de la alimentación humana y animal. Como la diversidad biológica interviene en todos los sectores de la sociedad, exige un enfoque multidisciplinario y es importante estimular a las comunidades rurales, reconociendo su papel en dicha conservación, factor importante a tenerse en cuenta en la implementación de estrategias de desarrollo sostenible, ya que ellas serán actores claves en la propuesta e implementación de estrategias nacionales de conservación in situ con enfoque ecosistémico, incorporando la biodiversidad tradicional mantenida en los huertos caseros y fincas, que son los principales reservorios de diversidad agrícola del país y constituyen la plataforma para lograr la seguridad y la soberanía alimentaria. The researches on in situ conservation of plant genetic resources in Cuba have demonstrated the value of the home gardens and farms of the rural areas in the maintenance of the traditional agricultural biodiversity through their use, especially in areas linked to the Cuban biosphere reserves. Their managed should be considered in an integral way, keeping in mind all the aspects (natural, socio-economic and cultural) that impact in its conservation. The sustainable character of the home gardens in the transition areas became them in economically stable units that achieve a balance with its environment, through the use of a high diversity of species for the sustenance of the family, where the traditional crops are the base of the human and animal feeding. As the biological diversity it intervenes in all the sectors of the society, it demands a multidisciplinary focus and it is important to stimulate rural communities, recognizing their paper in its conservation, important factor to be kept in mind in the implementation of strategies of sustainable development, since they will be key actors in the proposal and implementation of national strategies of in situ conservation with ecosystem focus, incorporating the traditional biodiversity maintained in the home gardens and farms, which is the main reservoir of Cuban agricultural diversity that constitutes the platform to achieve the security and the alimentary sovereignty.
