Actualmente existen productores insertados a dicha modalidad de producción por el Decreto Ley 300/2012 (actual Decreto Ley 300/2012), los mismos, en su mayoría no cuentan con una cultura y tradición agrícola, por lo que, la extensión agraria contribuiría a mejorar los resultados productivos requeridos para la alimentación en la población urbana y suburbana. La investigación realizada es de carácter cualitativo y se emplean métodos como: el diagnóstico rural participativo, las entrevistas, la observación directa, y la revisión documental, metodologías que permitieron caracterizar la Cooperativa de Créditos y Servicios fortalecida (CCS (f) Cuba Socialista ubicada en el municipio Marianao, facilitando la información para identificar Debilidades, Amenazas, Fortalezas y Oportunidades. Esto propició estudiar los principales factores que influyen en el desarrollo de la Agricultura Suburbana, factores analizados para diseñar un plan de acción elaborado de conjunto con los productores de la CCS (f). Los resultados obtenidos muestran el importante rol desempeñado por la unidad de producción en el desarrollo agropecuario del municipio, sobrecumpliendo los planes de producción, no obstante, existen factores restrictivos como la mala calidad de los suelos y la baja utilización del agua para el riego, entre otros, los cuales limitan los volúmenes de producción y rendimientos por hectáreas en la CCS (f) antes mencionada. The suburban agriculture in Cuba is an essential strategy to promote local food production from sustainable management of existing resources to increase food security from the base. At present there are a lot of farmers inserted in that production modality through the law decree 259/2008 (current law decree 300/2012) but some of those farmers do not have any agricultural knowledge, so the agriculture extension program would contribute to improve the production of food required to feed the urban and suburban population. The research has a qualitative character and the following methods were used: rural participatory diagnosis, interview, direct observation and, revision of documents. Those methods allowed characterizing the “Cuba Socialsita” Strengthened Service and Credit Association (SSCA) located at Marianao municipality, providing information to identify Weaknesses, Threats, Strengths and Opportunities. That fact allowed identifying the main factors that influence the development process of Suburban Agriculture on the production unit; those factors were then analyzed to create an action plan with the producers of the SSCA. The results show the important role played by the “Cuba Socialista” SSCA on the agriculture development of Marianao municipality. This SSCA over fulfill the production plans however, there are limiting factors such as poor soil quality and low use of water for irrigation, among others, which are limiting elements in order to get higher production levels and better yields per hectare in the SSCA before mentioned.
