Desde pequeño vinculó su vida estudiantil al aprendizaje de la agronomía, hasta graduarse como ingeniero agrónomo, en 1947. Se vinculó al proceso revolucionario desde sus inicios, por lo que sufrió del exilio. Con el triunfo revolucionario del primero de enero, ocupó numerosos cargos en la esfera agrícola a nivel nacional, dentro de los cuales resalta el de primer director de la Estación Experimental Agronómica de Santiago de las Vegas. Todos los esfuerzos de Álvaro Barba, en este cargo y al frente del Departamento de Reforestación y Fruticultura del Instituto Nacional de Reforma Agraria (hoy Ministerio de la Agricultura), que ocupó durante su corta pero fecunda vida como dirigente científico, estuvieron dirigidos a la repoblación forestal y frutal de un país devastado por la guerra. Por lo que el objetivo de este trabajo consiste en un realizar un recorrido por la vida del dirigente revolucionario, el científico y el hombre. Resaltando su labor como primer director de la Estación Experimental Agronómica de Santiago de las Vegas. Alvaro Barba Machado born the February 4, 1923, in Cascorro, the province from Camagüey. All Alvaro’s effort, in this debit and in front of Reforestación’s and Fruticultura’s Apartment of Reforma Agraria’s National Institute (today Ministery of Agriculture), that he occupied during his short but fertilizes life like scientific leader, they were intended for reforestation and fruit tree of a country devastated by the war. What the objective of this work consists for in one accomplishing a journey for the revolutionary leader’s life, the scientist and the man.
