Establecimiento de una colección núcleo de maíz (Zea mays L.), a partir de la colección ex situ del cultivo Establishment of a core collection of maize (Zea mays L.), through the ex situ collection of the crop Fernández, Lianne Fundora, Zoila Gálvez, Guillermo Cristóbal, Raúl Guevara, Carlos Acuña, Gloria Pérez, M. Para el establecimiento de la colección núcleo se sembraron 91 materiales correspondientes a la colección de maíz y cuatro variedades comerciales como testigo (Gíbara, Pajimaca, Victoria y Francisco Mejorado) en un Diseño No Replicado en parcelas de 5 surcos por accesión y 3.5 m de longitud en la Finca La Amalia, del Municipio Boyeros durante septiembre del 2003 y enero del 2004. Se evaluaron 17 descriptores relacionados con la mazorca y el grano. De ellos se seleccionaron los descriptores con mayor variabilidad y se incluyeron en análisis de componentes principales y un cluster a partir de las matrices obtenidas del análisis de componentes principales. Para la clasificación del germoplasma se tuvieron en cuenta dos aspectos: el origen geográfico y el tipo de grano. El análisis de conglomerados condujo a la formación de seis clases y permitió el establecimiento de la colección núcleo constituida por 19 accesiones para un 20 %, con el objetivo de que más del 70 % de los alelos de la colección base estén reunidos en la colección núcleo. El estrato fundamental de la colección núcleo está integrado por 16 variedades autóctonas, ya que es la porción que representa la variabilidad presente en la colección para el tipo de grano y se encuentran distribuidas según su origen geográfico en tres de Occidente, cinco del Centro y ocho de Oriente. Tres variedades comerciales fueron incluidas en la colección núcleo con el fin de representar diferentes variantes genéticas empleadas en los Programas de Mejoramiento. In order to establish a core collection, 91 accessions from the maize collection and four commercial varieties (Gíbara, Pajimaca, Victoria y Francisco Mejorado) were sown in plots of 5 rows by accession and 3.5 m long using a No Replicated design. The experiment was carried out in the farm La Amalia, municipality of Boyeros in September 2003 and January 2004. Seventeen descriptors from the ear and the grain were evaluated. The descriptors with the highest variability were chosen and included in the principal components analysis and the cluster analysis, using the first principal components score as input variables for the clustering process. For the classification of the germplasm two aspects were taken into account: the grain type and the geographic origin. The cluster analysis shown the formation of 6 sections and allowed the establishment of the core collection formed by 19 accessions, which represents a 20 %, with the objective of gathering more than the 70 % of the alleles from the base collection in the core collection. The principal stratum was integrated by 16 landraces, because this portion represents the variability of the collection according to the type of grain and they are distributed taking into account the geographic origin as follows: three from the Western, five from the Center and eight from the West. Three commercial varieties were included in the core collection with the goal of the representing several genetics forms used in the Plant Breeding Program.
