Selection of the minimum descriptors list for characterization and evaluation of the Capsicum L. germplasm (peppers)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study of morphological characterization and agronomic evaluation was realized with 138 accessions of the Capsicum collection, conserved at the INIFAT genebank. By the characterization study were selected16 characters, keeping in mind those that were discriminating for the species differentiation in the domesticated and wild dichotomic keys, also the agronomic evaluation was carried out with 14 characters. For determining the more importance characters, they were carried out two Factorial Correspondences Analysis (AFC), for the morphological characterization data (Simple AFC) and agronomic evaluation data (Multiple AFC). Were selected the characters that bigger contribution to the total variability to conform the Minimun Descriptors List.
This study showed the discriminating character of some inflorescence and fruit characters, which allowed to detect the variability groups in the germplasm, as well as the confirmation and identification of the species and cultivars that compose the collection, for what can be considered as minimum descriptors for the Cuban collection. Were included 18 descriptors, characterization (15) and evaluation (3). The Minimum Descriptors List delimited in this work, represents 21% of the one proposed before and they will be applied in the studies of morfoagronomic characterization of the Capsicum national collection, they allow the time saving and it facilitates the management of the germplasm collection in the field conditions.
