Characterization morphoagronomic of plantain clone 'Curaré enano' (Musa spp. AAB) in the conditions of Mayabeque province.
Main Article Content
Abstract
The cultivation of plantain and banana tree (Musa spp.) represents more than 40% of viands production in the country, however, last years a reduction of its yields has occurred due to several factors. The objective of the present work was to determine the behavior of the plantain clone ‘Curaré enano’ (Musa sp. AAB) in the conditions of Mayabeque Province. The plants were evaluated in "La Manuelita" farm belonging to the Fortified Credit and Services Cooperative "Rubén Marichal," from Batabanó municipality. Their morphologic and agronomic features were characterized through the descriptors of the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute. The morphologic and agronomic characterization allowed describing the principal features of the clone in the conditions of Mayabeque. Indicators as the mass of the bunch (12.82 kg), the number of hands (8.40), the average number of fruits by bunch (46.35) and the mass of the fruits (261.33 g), were determined and they were similar and in some cases higher than the informed prior for this clone. Another element to highlight is the height of the plants (218.26 cm), which makes them less vulnerable to the strong winds. These elements allowed predicting that plantain clone ‘Curaré enano’ is a viable alternative in order to increment the production of this plantain in Cuba.
