How to improve the management of the irrigation systems used for vegetables production under urban agriculture conditions
Main Article Content
Abstract
As part of the Environmental Bases for Local Food Sustainability Project (Basal), are shown some experiences obtained for Cuba conditions for using irrigation systems in vegetable production that promote the water efficient use and improvement in their management. Irrigation systems for producing vegetables on organoponic conditions and in intensive orchards are shown, which guarantee food sovereignty taking into account climatic change the adaptation measures. As a result, we obtained that when the proposed actions are applied improvement in uniformity coefficients between 80 and 90% is gotten, accompanied by a reduction in water consumption up to 10% and a relative increase of the productions in 15%, being achieved also an improvement in water, use allowing that the activity be sustainable and environmentally friendly.
