Inventory of the diversity of Capsicum spp. conserved in situ in agriculture traditional systems of Cuba

Abstract
The study was developed during the years 1999-2009, in 39 home gardens of the western regions (Sierra del Rosario), central (solid Guamuhaya) and eastern (solid Nipe- Sagua- Baracoa). An inventory of the diversity in the time with the objective of knowing the presence and the state of conservation of traditional cultivars of peppers in those agro ecosystems has been realised. A training program was developed with the farms through community workshops, and demonstrative fairs of diversity what facilitated the germplasm acquisition for this way. The inventory of the diversity corroborated that most of the variability of traditional peppers cultivars can only be found nowadays in the rural communities. In the western region 29 cultivars have been registered in total, it was demonstrated in this way that this region is an important tank of Capsicum traditional variability, of them seven are the “hybrids local cultivars”. However, in the eastern region, 15 cultivars have been detected in total; two of them are the “hybrids local cultivars”. The inventory carried out in the home gardens, contributed 262 accessions that were incorporate to the ex situ collection former of the genus that is conserved at the present in the INIFAT genebank.
