Abstract

´Rayado 2258´ is a new common bean variety (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), withred mottled seeds. The variety presents a type II b habit of growth, arbustive, undetermined, and an intermediate cycle to harvest of 75-80 days. The cultivar was obtained by the masal selection method from a collected accession of INIFAT’s Germplasm Bank. The selection was conducted on the basis of yield components, uniformity at harvest, grain color and mechanization aptitude. The cultivar was evaluated in experimental conditions from 1998 to 2005. From 2005 to 2015 was evaluated in relation to ´Rosas´ and ´Lagrima roja´ commercial varieties, both with a same grain size The behavior at Artemisa, Mayabeque, Havana, Ciego de Ávila, and Sancti Spiritus provinces were evaluated, showing tolerance to rust (Uromyces phaseoli) and mosaic common virus (CBMV) and grain potential yields of 2,5-3 ton/ha.
