Assessment of soil quality: physical, chemical and biological approaches
Main Article Content
Abstract
A methodology that allows the implementation of a system of evaluation of the quality of the soils was developed, starting from the necessity of establishing a system of surveillance to check the affectations or benefits because of agricultural handling on this resource and its influence in the global atmosphere. A structure model that integrated the physical, chemical and biological properties function, work and processes of the soil was elaborated. It system was validated by means of determination of the Soil Quality Index (ICS) in severe types and systems of soil´ management. The used methods showed the effectiveness of a minimum group of indicators of soil; thresholds values for their normalization were standardized in the region join to relative importance of functions, processes and physical, chemical and biological indicators of the soil integrated, served as procedures to obtaining a Soil Quality Evaluation and Checking System (SEMCAS), a methodology for their implementation and a multimedia like learning tool; use and useful method to perfect the way of soils evaluation in order to sustainable handling. The ICS varied because of the type of soil, its capacity to work and the agricultural handling relationship as expression of the result of the dynamics among the edaphic and environmental quality. The soil quality was perturbed by the inadequate soils management with its consequent degradation. The ICS was increased in those places with an appropriate agricultural management system.
