Characteristics of reproductive biology of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench.) and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) influencing germoplasm conservation
Main Article Content
Abstract
An evaluation of different factors influencing the germoplasm conservation is made, emphasizing on those related to reproductive biology of two culture collections: (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench.) and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), and their wild relatives. The behavior of different characteristics permitted, from the flow of pollen, to infer the introduction of variability in the conserved germoplasm. The main results showed that adding wild species to traditional cultivars collections strengthen the predisposition of conserved material to the presence of entomophilies fauna in the regeneration fields, which introduce undesired variability. The tomato crop collection (Solanum Sect. Lycopersicon) has been the active presence of pollinators like Exomalopsis spp. The Abelmoschus collection, the, pollinating insects belong to Agapostemon genus, several of these pollinators carry out strange source of pollen that is able to alter the genetic integrity of accessions conserved.
