Promissory resistance lines of tomato to Alternaria solani (Ellis & Martin) Sorauer
Main Article Content
Abstract
The use of wild germplasm in genetic breeding programs has significant importance because it contained a great part of the genetic diversity of the nature. There are resistance sources In the Cuban germplasm ex situ conserved transferable to the commercial varieties used in the breeding program of tomato developed in INIFAT. They were used as male progenitors the cultivars P-809B, P-1048, P-1243 belonging to the wild form Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme, used as resistance source to Alternaria solani and as female progenitors the commercial varieties ‘Campbell-28’ and ‘Nova II’, susceptible to the pathogen, with the objective of combining in the descendant the characteristics of both progenitors. The agronomic and resistance characteristics are presented on nine promissory lines obtained in the program as a result of the selections carried out through different generations. The results demonstrate an introgression of the genes of resistance of primitive cultivars in the lines and it has recovered the fruits size of the commercial varieties used as progenitors.
