Nim bioderivatives (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) for the control of parasites affecting domestic animals
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper shows the main research results on Nim (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) bioproducts OleoNim 80 CE, DerNim P, FoliarNim HM, CubaNim SM and CubaNim T, obtained in INIFAT and submitted to validation tests for 9 years in different Cuban specialized institutions. All of them made evident a pronounced curative action on affections caused by several animals’ parasites. In that sense, DerNim P was very effective on rabbits, pigs and dogs infested by scabies mites; for that reasons, it may be used in substitution of chemicals like Esteladion and Miasis Cutánea. It has also been demonstrated that OleoNim 80 CE 2 – 3 % applied to chicken and laying hens had excellent control of birds mite (Megninia gynglimura) and the lice (Menopon gallinae) as compared with Cypermetrine at 1,2%; a similar results have being found with CubaNim SM and CubaNim T. In another direction FoliarNim HM at 0,5 – 1% added to the diet became very effective in the treatment of poultry intestinal parasites; specially Raillietina cesticillus and Choanotaenia infundibulum, compared with the standard product Niclosamide 150 and 200 mg/Kg of food; likewise FoliarNim HM was as effective as Albendazol against gastrointestinal parasites in sheep (Pelibuey) using 0.67 g/Kg live weight; in the other hand, OleoNim 80 CE to mixsed with FoliarNim HM in doses of 5 ml/L de water and 50g/L respective were effective on ticks (Boophilus microplus) in cattle when it was compared with Cypermetrine. Costs and prices for Neem derivates make them potentially very feasible to be produced and employed under Cuban conditions.
