Sucroce preculture effect on bulbification and in vitro conservation of garlic (Allium sativum L.)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Garlic is very appreciated as specie and medicinal plant. That is why it’s germplasm is conserved in different regions and countries world wide. Slow growth of garlic germplasm has been studied at the Institute of Fundamental Research on Tropical Agriculture (INIFAT) during the last decade. For garlic slow growth conservation is important to obtain vigorous bulblets which generate viable plantlets in the next vegetative growth cycle. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of sucrose preculture on in vitro bulbification and conservation of three garlic types. Preculture at 10% sucrose concentration produced bulblets of higher diameter and weight. Two steps preculture at 3-10% and 3-15% sucrose concentration did not increase bulblets development.
