Abstract

Turmeric´s rhizome is a coloring matter and it has starches and aromatic substances that transform it into a condiment. Many therapeutical properties are know such as: hepatic protection, dermatological, digestion stimulation, anti-carcinogenic, antibacterial and others. This work was developed at “Liliana Dimitrova” Horticultural Research Institute from May 2009 to January 2010 in order to know the crop nutritional requirements under Cuba´s edafoclimatec conditions. Two organic mather´s variants were studied (15 t.ha-1 and 30 t.ha-1 of bovine manure) and two mineral fertilizer´s variants (0,45 t.ha-1 and 0,90 t.ha-1 of 9-13-17 complete formula) with additional appercation of 60 kg/ha of nitrogen as urea. All these treatments were compared with an absolute control, regarding the variables yield and solid´s content of turmeric; using a randomized block dising. The biggest yield was obtainsed from the maximum dose of organic matter applied, withont significant difference with minimum dose, but it differ significantly of absolute control. Concerning the mineral fertilization, no significant difference appears between maximum and minimum dose compare with absolute control even the production was increased in 10%. The solid amount change from 4 to 6 t/ha in dependence of the studies variant, what represents savings between 14 000 and 18 000 USD/ha, considering an importation cost of 3,00 USD/kg. In case of being applied, this result could be a contribution to the food sovereignty of our country.
