Bases for creating and managing a local seed bank. Case study of Sierra del Rosario seed bank
Main Article Content
Abstract
The basic elements for the establishment and effective handling of the Community Seed Banks were identified, on the basis of the peasants participation, and considering equally the suggestions of women, children and the young generation. They also settled down the inherent responsibilities of the rural leaders of the banks, as well as the necessary rules for handling of community banks of seeds, and for the efficient handling of the production of seeds and the appropriate conservation of them. The exchange of seeds in CSB allows farmers to increase the access to the available diversity in the area, as well as it facilitates and increases the exchange of information on handling and conservation of crops.
