Evaluation of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) genotypes for their use in genetic improvement programs

Abstract
Presently work offers the results of the morphological evaluation of 15 sunflower genotypes from the genebank collection of the Institute of Fundamental Researches on Tropical Agriculture (INIFAT), by means of the 6 descriptors recommended by the IPGRI: Days to germination (DG), Days to flowering (DF), Days to crop (AD), Plant height (AP), Stem diameter (DT) and Head diameter (AD). The populational statistical parameters were calculated, and the behaviour against the main plagues and diseases of the crop was evaluated. An analysis of conglomerates was carried out, using the method of hierarchical classification of Wards. Data were processed by the program Statgraphics Version 6.0. The results allowed identifying five genotipes (11-F, 28-TO, M-113, 65 and 83) as promissory to be included in the programs of improvement of this specie for grains and flowers production.
