Abstract

The results for the determination of appropriate parameters in the conservation and stimulation of bean (Phaseoulus vulgaris L.) seed germination are shown in this paper. Three representative varieties from the genebank collection were used, which were stored at two kind of container for two different seed moisture contents. A scale for the vigor was established through the emergency speed coefficient (IVE). This parameters allowed us the determination of critical moisture. The magnetic seed treatment capacity was also evaluated to germination recovery. The results demonstrated that there are differential behavior between different varieties in the same specie. Seed varieties of black and red bean were preserved without differences during the first storing years, independently the kind of container and seed moisture content. Aluminum cover and 6.7% of moisture content, was the higher conservation for the white bean, although the storing period influenced on the germination decreasing more than seed moisture. The exposure parameters in magnetic field treatment at 225 mT during 120 seconds caused a seed viability recovery.
