Economic feasibility of the production of oil seed crops
Main Article Content
Abstract
The production of seeds of the different crops is an essential step in the efficient production of food, being regulated its production in Cuba the Various Seeds Enterprise and the System for Seed Inspection and Certifying, both from the Ministry of Agriculture. In the case of oil seed crops, little has been published in respect to the economic feasibility of the production of the different cathegories. In Cuba, although the Technological Charts associated to each crop are available, little has been made to value this important issue. The study focuses on the analysis of the economic feasibility for the national production of four oil seed crops, and of the cost/benefit relationship for each species for category. The analysis was carried out considering the production of each of two cathegories, Original and Basic, starting from the records settled down in each case. The results demonstrated the feasibility of the national production of seeds in these species, guaranteeing their supply to the production plans. From the social point of view, the national production of seeds of these crops would guarantee new horizons for the production of oil in the different territories of the country, and it would improve the conditions of feeding in them, as well as it would provide new employment sources to the population's different strata.
