Comportamiento de variedades promisorias de maní (Arachis hypogaea L.) frente a la incidencia natural de la roya (Puccinia arachidis Speg.)

Abstract
Eleven bunch introduced peanut cultivars (subsp. fastigiata), from the germplasm collection at the Fundamental Research Institute on Tropical Agricultura (INIFAT) were evaluated, in order to identify their resistance or tolerance to rust (Puccinia arachidis Speg.), measured by the development of the epidemy under natural infection conditions. A cluster analysis on the varieties was performed and two mathematic models for the epidemy development were adjusted (straight line and the logistic models), and the adjusted curves were drawed; data from the succesive evaluations were also grouped for making possiblen an easier screenig of varieties in huge peanut germplasm collections. Results permitted to classify varieties into five groups of reacting against rust, mainly by their differences in the third and fourth evaluations: a very susceptible one; three, possibly with incomplete vertical resistance genes, and variety ‘CEMSA’, with possible horizontal resistance. The development of the epidemy was better adjusted to the straight line model. It is possible to use only three evaluations for characterizing great germplasm volumen, when it is desired to know the progress of peanut rust across time, and the behaviour of cultivars against rust, minimizing the necessary efforts for measuring this attribute in the collections.
