Characterization during the postharvest losses of three vegetables in the Quivicán municipality, Mayabeque
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this work was to quantify the postharvest losses in the harvest of three vegetables in Quivicán. This allowed us to provide criteria to plan reduction and prevention strategies of this. The experiment was carried out on tomato var. ´Elbita´ (Solanum lycopersicum L.), aubergine var. ´American Wonder´ (Solanum melongena L.) and beet var. ´Detroit´ (Beta vulgaris L.). The sampling was carried out in 20 stations of 1m2 taken at random per hectare, in the fields already harvests. In the tomato, the fruits were green, painted and overripe, they did not have the optimum degree of maturation for the seed’s extraction, destine function of this crop and agricultural yield loss of 26.33 %. In egg plant, 68.24 % had a length greater than 110 mm, which is the permissible diameter for marketing, due to the lack of a market study, large production and low demand. In beet, 97.32 % with a diameter less than 55 mm, not permissible for marketing, given the violation of the sowing rule, thinning was carried out, but the field was still maintained with a high density.
