Abstract

In order to meet, analyze and give visibility to Urban Agriculture in the city of Catalão, Brazil, research that would achieve this object was established. We tried to bring the theory into the local reality, joining both to analyze the reality of this practice in that city. The general objective was to identify the characteristics of this practice, and quantify what was produced and how it was produced; trying to present an overview of their stage in the city and thus demonstrate the importance of urban agriculture as an alternative to building a more sustainable city, where all can collaborate, and its ability to provide dignified life for city dwellers who develop it. For this work were carried out field visits to conduct polls and meet the experiences of families‘ agriculture in the city of Catalão. Thus, we tried to demonstrate with the cases found and through their examples, the Urban Agriculture is the best way to make an inclusive and sustainable city where all social classes can have access to better quality of life foods. The results showed the particularities of urban farmers and what they produce. From then we drew up a development program for urban agriculture to generate food with ecological base and promoting sustainable socio-economic development of families. The program promoted the transfer of social technologies for urban agriculture and stimulate it, form agroecological backyards and community gardens; using the methodology gardener to gardener adapted from the methodology "peasant to peasant".
