Abstract

Cuba is a refuge of unique components from agricultural biodiversity, important for human communities, but a group of species and cultivars are considered underutilized today, because its use is below its potentialities, because, they are not exploited for food and family sustainability, as well as for commercial production in the country, however they could generate products for natural, elaborated or semi-elaborated consumed and also to generate entrances. The condition of underutilized in Cuba is determined by the small size of the populations, the scarce or null use outside the site where they be, the scarce knowledge of its existence and potential use in spite of having been used in the past, the technological difficulties that limit its use, used for the elaboration of craft, musical instruments, among other uses, as well as crops or pioneers species in the country that can have an immediate application that it can be include endemic, native or exotic, wild or cultivated species. Examples of underutilized species or cultivars are offered, according to the main reasons for those species can be considered like such.
