Vitellaria paradoxa C. F. Gaertn (Karité o butter tree, Sapotaceae), forestal resource in Cuba

Abstract
The farm of Muñoz's family is placed in Santiago de las Vegas-Rincón Street, Boyeros, Havana, and it has very important collections of fruit and ornamental species. Since de beginnings of the1960 decade, there is in the property one species, now days with remarkable dimensions, given to the family by the notorious engineer Alberto Fors. However, the taxonomic identity of the species was unknown up to the present. A bibliographic research was made using the common name, and it found that under the name karate (it means butter in Western Africa) it is identify Vitellaria paradoxa, a Sapotaceae family tree whose description coincides with the tree cultivated into the Muñoz's family farm. We have known that, from it fruits may be obtained edible oil which is traditionally used in Sahel region, and also is used in chocolate and cosmetic industries. The presence of this plant in the farm, propose us the goal of attempt propagation and vegetative reproduction of the adult pretending the extension of its culture.
