Abstract

During the last decade, slow growth conservation of garlic germplasm has been studied at INIFAT’s Gene Bank. At present, the Gene Bank has a collection of clones that are conserved, depending on the genotype, from 9 months to one year regeneration cycles. Micropropagation is an important phase for regeneration and management of in vitro conserved garlic bulblets; that is why, it is one of the aspects to study for garlic germplamsm conservation. The objective of this paper is to evaluate three procedures (P1, P2, P3) for garlic micropropagation using in vitro conserved bulblet apices as explants; with the purpose of regenerating and maintaining slow growth conserved clones. With treatment 2 (P2) was obtained an acceptable propagation rate for maintaining the in vitro collection (at 5-6oC). Procedure 3 favored multiple shoots formation and it is recommendable for clones of low propagation rate with P 2.
