Efecto de la salinidad sobre la germinación in vitro de embriones inmaduros de maíz (Zea mays L.)
Main Article Content
Abstract
In order to establish an in vitro methodology to characterize maize genotypes for their resistance to salinity stress, the effect of five doses (0, 0,5, 1.0, 1.5 y 2.0%) of sodium chloride (NaCl) on germination and growth of immature embryos were determinate in differences genotypes (P 2546, P 683, Tayuyo y Oro) from Gene Bank of INIFAT. The embryos were culture on MS (1962) media without growth regulators. Germination, plant height, root length and number of leaves and proline content and electrical conductivity in leaves were determinate. Results showed that the variables evaluated were inhibited when saline concentrations increased and were observe a total suppression of growth at 2% NaCl. Root length, levels of proline and electrical conductivity showed a different behaviour among genotypes and allowed to identify the genotypes P 2546 and P 683 as the most susceptible and the genotype Tayuyo as the most tolerant, so that they can be use as possible markers for selection of salinity tolerant genotypes.
