Advances in the researches leading to the implementation of QuitoMax on tomato crop
Main Article Content
Abstract
Chitosans have significant potential for use as bioactive compounds of products for agriculture. Among its main effects is to have antimicrobial activity demonstrated against fungi, bacteria, oomycetes, to activate the induction of resistance in plants against their pathogens, including antiviral activity, to promote plant growth and increase yields in several crops and to protect against various abiotic stresses. QuitoMax is a bioestimulant developed by the Group of Bioactive products from INCA, whose main active component are chitosan polymers. The product has been studied in basic and applied experiments and currently it is being validated and successfully extended at field scale in various horticultural crops and grains such as: tobacco, tomato, potato, pepper, rice, corn, beans, soybean, among others, in order to protect crops against pathogens during their growth and enhance their yield. Depending on the species and cultivation conditions it have been obtained yield increments between 5 and 50% above control. This work presents the main group researches related to the protection of tomato at seedlings period, by modeling the interaction with the pathogen Phytophthora nicotianae and promoting growth and yields at laboratory and field conditions. The main results showed activation of induced resistance against pathogens, depending on the dose and mode of application, as well as increments of growth and yields up to 40% on plantation. The above results allow proposing a QuitoMax application technology in this crop.
